Profile:

Justin Barfield serves as the Director of Music and Worship at First Baptist Church. He oversees
the church’s music ministry, serves as the church organist and pianist, directs the choir, and
leads the musical and visual elements of worship during services. Additionally, Justin is also
responsible for the church social media ministry and works with our telecommunications
ministry.

A native of Edgecombe County, Justin has served several congregations throughout our
community as an organist over the years and has participated in special musical performances
across North Carolina. Having begun music training at the age of 11, Justin received his piano
and organ instruction under the direction of Mrs. Shirley Harris, choral education under the
direction of Mrs. Nicole Turski, and Suzuki method studies in violin from Mrs. Frances Smith.
Throughout his academic career, Justin played the French horn, which he pursued in his
collegiate studies under Dr. Mary Burroughs at East Carolina University before graduating from
Fayetteville Technical. He is an active member of the American Guild of Organists, East Carolina
Chapter.

Justin resides in Pinetops with his wife, Donna Lynn, and their young son, Grant. Outside of
church, he enjoys gardening, spending time with his family, and quiet reflection on the Outer
Banks. As a classically trained musician, his favorite composers are Handel, Haydn, and Mozart.
